On Thursday, May 1st, residents across Lincolnshire will make two critical decisions: who will run the County Council and who will be Lincolnshire’s first directly elected Mayor.
Craig Leyland, Leader of East Lindsey District Council and proud ward member for Woodhall Spa and Kirkby on Bain, has delivered a clear message: the future of our services, our communities, and our local leadership depends on a strong Conservative team — at County Hall and in the Mayoral office.
Why Conservative Leadership Matters
Craig highlighted that while the national political picture may feel uncertain, Lincolnshire Conservatives have delivered time and again at the local level. Independent inspections have judged the County Council’s services as among the best in the country:
- Children’s Services: Rated Outstanding by Ofsted — ensuring high-quality education, safeguarding, and support for young people.
- Adult Social Care is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission and is vital for supporting our older and vulnerable residents.
- Adult Learning & Skills: Rated Good by Ofsted — helping residents upskill and retrain.
- Fire and Rescue Services: Rated Good by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate — providing critical frontline emergency services.
Craig also celebrated significant investments in Lincolnshire’s future, including £100 million earmarked for new schools, such as the recently completed special school in Horncastle.
Debunking Misinformation
Recently, Reform UK have been spreading claims that Lincolnshire County Council is “broken.” Craig was quick to dismantle these claims:
- Financial Management: Lincolnshire’s Internal Audit Service fully conforms to the highest national standards of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
- External Audit: In 2025, leading auditors KPMG provided an unqualified sign-off on the Council’s accounts — the cleanest audit result possible.
- Highways Service: Despite ongoing challenges, Lincolnshire’s highways have been externally rated as offering good value for money, balancing brutal financial realities with strategic planning.
Craig’s verdict was simple: “Reform’s statement that Lincolnshire Council is broken is a complete load of rubbish.” Reform either doesn’t understand what it takes to run a council—or it chooses to mislead.
A Choice That Matters
Craig Leyland’s message is clear. If you are undecided or frustrated by national politics, look locally. Lincolnshire Conservatives have not let you down. They have consistently delivered strong, well-managed services. Now is not the time to risk everything we have built.
