Lincolnshire residents are all too familiar with the heartbreak and havoc caused by flooding. The devastation of Storm Babet in 2023 and Storm Henk in early 2024 left a lasting mark on our communities. That’s why, under the previous Conservative-led administration, the County Council established a dedicated Storm Impact Working Group to ensure action was taken—not just talked about.
This group worked swiftly and responsibly to produce 12 urgent recommendations focused on community protection, homeowner resilience, and wildlife preservation.
However, with a new administration in charge, residents deserve clear answers: Are these flood protection measures being fully implemented?
At last week’s Environment Scrutiny Committee, our colleague Cllr Ian Carrington (Potterhanworth and Coleby) pressed the new leadership for clarity and commitment. He spoke with calm resolve on behalf of worried residents:
“These are important matters which have caused very great concern across our county… I’ve asked the question, but I still haven’t got an answer.” Cllr Ian Carrington
We’re proud of Cllr Carrington—and many of our councillors—for pushing constructively yet firmly to make sure that promises don’t slip into the long grass.

So far, the response from the Reform-led executive has been hesitant and vague. While officers have confirmed that some actions have progressed, political leadership has yet to give the straightforward assurance our communities deserve: that all 12 recommendations will be delivered in full and without delay.
This isn’t about point-scoring. It’s about flood-risk families still living in fear and about trust in local government being earned through delivery.
Our commitment as the Conservative opposition is simple:
- We will continue to hold the new administration to account—firmly but fairly.
- We will champion the interests of every community vulnerable to flooding.
- We will support any measure that accelerates implementation and enhances protection for Lincolnshire families.
The people of Lincolnshire expect action—not excuses. We won’t rest until every measure promised is in place and our county is better prepared for the next storm.
