Cllr Richard Davies – Leader Conservative Group

Now in opposition, we take on a different but vital role: holding the new Reform administration to account. As the official opposition on Lincolnshire County Council, our responsibility is to scrutinise, challenge, and defend the high standards that residents have come to expect from their local government in Lincolnshire.

I want to pay particular tribute to our former leader, Martin Hill. For over 20 years, Martin led both our group and the council with distinction. When he took office in the early 2000s, the council faced real challenges. Through his leadership, Lincolnshire County Council became one of the most efficient, well-run, and widely respected councils in the country — a notable achievement given the political and economic turbulence of the past two decades. That even the incoming Reform administration has been forced to acknowledge the council’s strong performance is a testament to Martin’s tenacious leadership. I’m pleased to say that he has agreed to join the shadow executive, where his experience will be invaluable as we hold the new leadership to account.

Across the county, these elections were a tough lesson for the Conservative Party. We’ve lost valued colleagues and friends, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who stood for us and supported our efforts over the years. The Conservative Party remains a broad church, united by our shared values and determination. Yes, we are bruised — but we are not broken. We have already regrouped, and now we are rebuilding, fighting back, and our strong voice in scrutiny is gaining traction.

The energy and optimism at our recent campaign meeting was palpable. Locally, our members are re-energised for the road ahead. I am confident that, together, we will continue to gain strength and determination. Nationally, we are already pushing back against both Labour and Reform, and early polling suggests that public opinion is beginning to shift, as people see what Reform UK truly represents.

We will continue to stand up for Lincolnshire and for Conservative values. The work begins now..
